How to use it

How much ube powder do you use per latte?

We recommend 2 to 2.5 grams per latte, about a level teaspoon. This way, you can make around 50 lattes from one 100-gram bag.

That is approximately €0.39 per cup, compared to €4 to €5 in a coffee bar.

Do you prefer a fuller flavor or a deeper purple? Feel free to use more. A bag won't last as long, but your latte will be exactly the way you want it.

The taste

What does ube taste like?

Soft, lightly sweet and nutty, with a vanilla-like finish. Think of vanilla, coconut and sweet potato all in one, but creamier. A touch of natural vanilla rounds it off.

No bitter or grassy aftertaste like matcha. Do you find matcha too strong? Then ube is the easy entry point. Do you actually love matcha? Combine them in one glass.

What do you use ube powder for?

Ube powder is not just for lattes. Customers use it for iced lattes, smoothies and milk tea, but just as well for cookies, cheesecake, ice cream and overnight oats.

Because the color comes naturally from the root and not from coloring, it stays beautifully purple even after baking. A small amount provides a lot of color, so you dose to taste and not by color.

The flavor is mild enough not to overpower and pairs well with vanilla, coconut and white chocolate.

Ube (pronounced oo-beh) is a purple yam from the Philippines. It has been used in desserts, ice cream, and drinks there for generations. Through coffee bars in Asia and America, ube is now also the purple trend in the Netherlands.

Soft, lightly sweet and nutty, with a vanilla-like finish. It has a subtle, creamy flavor that works well in drinks and desserts.

No. Ube is a root vegetable and contains no caffeine. You can drink an ube latte just as easily at 9:00 p.m. as at 9:00 a.m. Still want a boost? Add a shot of espresso.

No, they are three different tubers. Ube is a deeper purple, creamier, and has a vanilla-like flavor that you won't find in taro or purple sweet potato.

Matcha is powdered green tea: grassy, slightly bitter and contains caffeine. Ube is a root: sweet, mild and caffeine-free. Many people drink matcha in the morning and ube in the afternoon or evening. Or both in one glass: ube on the bottom, topped with matcha cold foam.

The purple color comes naturally from the root, thanks to plant compounds called anthocyanins. We do not add any coloring. That is why it retains its beautiful purple color even after baking.

Ube is a root vegetable, similar to a sweet potato. A 2.5-gram serving of powder contains fewer than 10 kcal, so the calories in your latte come mainly from your milk and any sweeteners. We sell ube for its flavor, not for any health claims. You can read more background in our article about ube.

Absolutely. Customers use it to make cookies, cheesecake, pancakes, ice cream, and overnight oats. Start with 1 to 2 tablespoons per recipe and add more for a deeper purple color. You can find inspiration in our ube recipes.

Syrups, extracts and cookies mainly provide ube flavor through flavoring and sugar, sometimes with coloring. Convenient, but you don't know how much real ube is in it. Our powder is 99.7% ube, dried and ground, with a pinch of natural vanilla. If in doubt, check the label.

Look for three things: ube as the main ingredient, no added sugar or coloring, and a clear origin. Still unsure? Try it yourself: with 2 bags you get free shipping and about 100 lattes to test.

Yes, all three. Ube is a tuber, just like a potato. Gluten is found in grains such as wheat, rye, barley, and spelt, and lactose is milk sugar from dairy. Neither is found in a purple yam, and natural vanilla doesn't change that. Do you drink lactose-free? Then make your latte with oat milk, almond milk, or lactose-free milk.

At 2 to 2.5 grams per latte, you will get about 50 lattes out of a 100-gram bag. One latte a day? Then it will last you well over seven weeks. Store the bag tightly sealed in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.

Certainly. Ube is becoming increasingly popular on the menu. View the hospitality options with UBE.25.

Ordered before 11:59 p.m. on a working day? Then your package will be dispatched the same night and will usually be delivered the next day in the Netherlands. Shipping is free from €35, so from 2 bags. You will receive the track & trace by email.

Ik heb het ube poeder gebruikt om mee te bakken en dat beviel goed. Het is makkelijk door het beslag te mengen en geeft een lekkere, subtiele smaak aan het gebak. Leuk om eens iets anders mee te maken.
